: I Got it to run. I had pulled the igniter wire brushed it and washed it down with brakeclean. I also advanced the timing and and also found that the govener speed was way to fast. The inside timing marks were off and re set them. I still have trouble to get it to start. How far open should the neatle valve be? 1\4 to 1\2. . :
: : : :
: : : : : Help. Can not get it to run. Have spark, clean fuel new oil timing marks all in line. Trip on the igniter is right. help

: : : : JOHN DO U HAVE SPARK AT THE IGNITER POINTS?
: : : : ARE U GETTING FUEL AT THE MIXER WHEN U CHOKE IT?
: : : : LET ME KNOW HOW U MAKE OUT

: : : Check your timing on mag.The two pins on mag should push into the indent on plate when timing mark on flywheel is at spark position.
: : : I hope this helps.

: : : well at least you got it running. as far as needle and seat setting its like this. we have at least a dozen of model "E"'s and every one is a different needle setting. so what you have to do is find the setting your engine likes, and here is how you do it. get your engine running and warmed up without choke on, now watch exhaust. turn needle out till it smokes black, this is your rich setting, then slowly turn needle in untill you hear the engine skip once or twice before firing. this is your lean setting. now slowly turn needle out untill engine stops skipping and fires normally. at this point here your engine is at correct setting. this is very important because an engine running too rich will cause premature wear on igniter, carbon build up, and even ring washout. while an engine running too rich can cause cracked cylinder walls, and holes in piston, burned valves and so on. one more thing to remember is as your fuel gets lower you'll need to adjust your needle out, which is only going to be 1/8 to 1/4 turn every 45 min. to an hour of running time. let me know how you make out, good luck and have fun.

Today's Featured Article - Memories of an IH Super A When I was ? up to 10, I worked on my Papaw's farm in Greeneville, TN every summer. As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub. My Papaw raised "baccer" (tobacco) and corn with the Super A, but the fondest memory was of the sawmill. He owned a small sawmill for sawing "baccer" sticks. The Super A was the powerplant. When I was old enough (7 or 8), I would get up early and be dressed to ... [Read Article]
