I’m struggling a bit to get a size reference, the bolts make it look kinda big, but the thing looks fairly small all in all. If it were next to a quarter or a 2x4 or hand or something I recognize, I could get a sense of how big it is.
It appears it can wobble on each side? Or is it all one piece, no movement allowed?
Is the center piece hollow through, or is it a solid shaft?
Pot metal maybe, or heavy iron?
Those bit of cogs we see on the ends, do they look like they engage anything, or serve a purpose?
If it came from your grandpa, did he work in a car or truck garage, would it have come off his farm, did he love only one brand of farm machinery? Are you in tobacco or cotton region, or a small grain area or corn bean area, so we might have a clue as to the type of machine it came off of?
Often times a pice like that, someone who knows can say right away from that pic.
It seems it is rather unusual, and so we all have to think harder. Seeing more angles of it and getting more clues will help us all.
You have a very good mystery started for us. Hope you and we can keep going with it. :)
