I've got an 8N with a Sherman over/under auxiliary transmission. Gives me 12 forward and three reverse speeds. The Sherman (and most others) mount between the engine and the main transmission. This gives you the gearing benefit, but it doesn't change the relationship of the tires to the pto. In underdrive the engine rpm is increased for a given pto rpm, resulting in about a 30% effective power increase. The overdrive works well for transporting the tractor. There is one auxiliary transmission that fits between the transmission and differential. Think it's called a Hupp, but I'm not sure of that. This is the one that gears you down while leaving the pto spinning full speed. It was used a lot in England as I understand it to allow for the use of the common rotary plows (we call them roto-tillers) on N's. In original configuration, the N does not have a slow enough vehicle speed to use a tiller well. These auxiliary transmissions are rare, and, unfortunately, quite fragile.

Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a
