First off, I think the bicycle does NOT belong on a high speed road anymore than letting pedestrians walk down the middle of the road. Common sense would tell you that mixing high and low speed traffic will cause an accident. Also in an accident, mixing cars and bikes, bad things are going to happen.
Until you solve that problem, its a matter of how many do you kill or injure.
For some reason our logic goes out the window when it comes to bicycles. We totally ignore the laws of physics, safety and common sense. At least the interstates have laws that ban pedestrians and bicycles.
