I'm with Butch. I own both Rugers and a Charter. Two very different platforms with different goals in mind and targeting different buyers. I wouldn't be scared of either one. If you plan to do a lot of shooting of full house 357 loads the Ruger will last longer. It's a better hunting gun. If you want to shoot a lot of 38's and do some self defense courses, the Charter will do fine. The Charter is arguably more versatile. The Ruger is much heavier and physically larger. It's going to depend on what you want to do.
