Funny you say that. My mother raised Dachshunds and my earliest memories are of sitting in the puppy box with Mom and her litter and playing with them and giving them names. I have always had at least one Dachshund in my house since then. I agree that this is a breed that needs understanding and proper socialization. Many times over the years I have had comments from veterinarians about how easy to work with my Dachshunds were/are. I guess it is because I grew up with them that we get things right early in life. Only one time, and it was just a few years ago with our current dog, did I have a situation where I misread a signal and she nailed me. It was entirely a misunderstanding though, and never repeated. A couple thousand people a year go thru my home office and most never realize that a dog is right there with them. She does not even bark.
