I don't know your background, there is an oil cup in the bottom of the air cleaner that uses the same oil as recommended in the engine crankcase. An operators manual and maybe a $25 I&T service manual #JD-203 would be good information to have available.
Deere's 1960's recommendation for engine oil in a gas 3020 are: Above 90F: SAE 30 or SAE 20W-40 multi-viscosity
32F to 90F: SAE 20W or SAE 10W-30
-10F to 32F: SAE 10W or SAE 10W-30
Below -10F: SAE 5W or SAE 5W-20
Multi-viscosity oils have improved a lot since then. I would speculate that 15W-40 would be fine for temperatures above +10F. Your gas tractor should start at -20F without any engine block heater. Winter starting will be much easier with lighter weight engine oil. In your climate I would use 10W-30 or 5W-30 year around, especially if it is your primary snow mover.

You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
