In the learning mode, waiting for a manual, but need to do some work. Couple questions on my 3010 I just purchased, gas.
I see there is an oil dip stick on the engine, great, what oil do you guys recommend, in Colorado, light use.
Second, there is a dip stick by the right hand side of the seat, I am guessing that is transmission fluid?
Again, what weight should I use on that? Is the transmission fluid used for the hydraulics, how about power steering?
Is there a place to check that out?
Thanks.

Thanks, is there a separate hydraulic fluid reservoir? Or does the hydraulic and power steering use the same fluid?

That tractor only uses 2 different oils. JD 'hyGard' or equivalent. All hydraulic funtions use the same oil from the same reservoir(rear end housing).15/40 fleet diesel motor oil.Any good grade/brand will do.

I use 10-30 in my gas 3020.. also when you measure with both dip sticks.. just stick it in hole whithout screwing it down,

I don't know your background, there is an oil cup in the bottom of the air cleaner that uses the same oil as recommended in the engine crankcase. An operators manual and maybe a $25 I&T service manual #JD-203 would be good information to have available.

Deere's 1960's recommendation for engine oil in a gas 3020 are:
Above 90F: SAE 30 or SAE 20W-40 multi-viscosity

32F to 90F: SAE 20W or SAE 10W-30

-10F to 32F: SAE 10W or SAE 10W-30

Below -10F: SAE 5W or SAE 5W-20

Multi-viscosity oils have improved a lot since then. I would speculate that 15W-40 would be fine for temperatures above +10F. Your gas tractor should start at -20F without any engine block heater. Winter starting will be much easier with lighter weight engine oil. In your climate I would use 10W-30 or 5W-30 year around, especially if it is your primary snow mover.
