I was just straight with people. I would tell them straight up if I did not want their trade. I usually had my best cash price to give them at that time though. On a lot of stuff, like your tractor, the original owner can sell it for more than any dealer can get.
Your tractor would be one of those items. You might be able to get $2000-2500 out of it to the right buyer. Many will give more to buy a farm fresh items so to speak.
