Thank you Jim, The disc s were stuck to the splined shaft. The pin that pulls the two halves together, was rusted tight in the clevis and nothing could move. When you stepped on the brake the tire locked up. There was a hand full of dirt in the bottom of the housing. I got everything free d up and I will measure the clearance tomorrow. The friction disc are worn to the point that each disc is missing one or more of the grooves. The balls are in poor shape and the ramps are rusty. I am going to apply some powdered graphite to the shaft and the balls tomorrow. He would like to get a smaller tractor and so I do not think he is inclined to do more than getting the brakes to work better. I doubt that I will turn the housing. I adjusted the points and both of us noticed that it ran much more smoothly. TY SDE
