While the intend back then to have been racial, today with the higher "minority" population now being on Jury duty, it would have the opposite effect... of letting a mostly black jury prevail? Of course it would be based on the demographics of each area.
Or so it would seem. I have no dog in the hunt, but it would seem to work opposite today. I happen to live in an area where white people are the minority and have no problems with it.
In serving on Jury duty, there always seems to be one or two people who are holdouts from the rest of the jury. In my experience, based on emotions and not the facts. Has nothing to do with color.
