We had a bear move in to our area one year. Cottagers leaving their garbage out overnioght for pickup. We called the MNR here in our area and expressed our concern. My daughter has to walk 1/4 kilomter to catch the bus. She is very independent and didn't want mom or dad driving her to the bus stop(6years old). They (MNR) told us to give her a whistle to wear as she walked down our bush road to the bus stop. Had the bear come up on our deck one night looking for food.We have a heavy woodedn box that we keep our sealed cans in. My daughter at that time heard some noise outside on the deck and thought it was one of our dogs was outside wantiong back in. She opened the patio door and saw a black snout coming around the corner and started calling the dog. The dog came up behind her from inside the house and then she saw it was a small black bear. She yelled for me and by the time I got to the door he was slowly walking across the yard. Never saw him again. Heard a rumor that a neighbour helped him leave the area
