NOTICE TO HIKERS

You are now entering an area that is the natural habitat of two species of bears, the brown bear and the grizzly bear.

It is recommended that you wear small bells as you traverse the area to alert any bears of your presence.

It is also desirable to carry pepper spray to help fend off any bears that may become aggressive.

It is possible to identify what specie of bear is present by examining the fecal matter that is found along the trail.

The feces of the brown bear will contain berry seeds while the feces of the grizzly bear will contain small bells and smell of pepper.

Yes, have seen that before in different variations. It is still funny. One version tells you to also carry a whistle. Sooo..the scat pile might even have a whistle on a yellow or red lanyard. Good stupid funny.

We had a bear move in to our area one year. Cottagers leaving their garbage out overnioght for pickup. We called the MNR here in our area and expressed our concern. My daughter has to walk 1/4 kilomter to catch the bus. She is very independent and didn't want mom or dad driving her to the bus stop(6years old). They (MNR) told us to give her a whistle to wear as she walked down our bush road to the bus stop.
Had the bear come up on our deck one night looking for food.We have a heavy woodedn box that we keep our sealed cans in. My daughter at that time heard some noise outside on the deck and thought it was one of our dogs was outside wantiong back in. She opened the patio door and saw a black snout coming around the corner and started calling the dog. The dog came up behind her from inside the house and then she saw it was a small black bear. She yelled for me and by the time I got to the door he was slowly walking across the yard. Never saw him again. Heard a rumor that a neighbour helped him leave the area

I have a big boar black bear visiting my yard semi-occasionally. The only trouble is that he tears up my bird feeder, which I dutifully rebuild. Otherwise he is quite amenable and will amble off when I ask him to. His name is "Smokey".

my neighbor has had black bear take 3 goats in the past year. So in my parts I suppose the funny would be finding goat remains.
