The deer ticks are active if the temperature is above 39 F. This would have been an adult male or female Ixodes scapularis. If the body is reddish it is female. Black legs. If the body is black and smaller it is a male. The adult deer ticks are active from about late Sept. to as late as March down here.
The other hard ticks get active above about 70-80 F and are basically warm weather fiends. The Lone star tick Amblyomma leaves quite an immune response and the wound left will itch for months.
