Yep last evening as I was getting into the tub I found a tick in a not so nice to have it place. So guess the ticks have started a bit early this year

PATIENT: Doc, I think I have a hemorrhoid .

DOCTOR: That is not a hemorrhoid..... it is a tick .

PATIENT: Okay then, just leave it there. If he can stand it I can too .

Your too late, someone here had one a couple weeks ago even with snow on the ground. I hate them.

Actually it was right after the big snowstorm, I got blamed for bringing it home after cutting trees that came down.

They are one durable insect. Right in between the sub zero temps we had a thaw and all I had to do was go to the mailbox and back across the lawn to get one on me. Saw it on the pant leg. Deer are prevalent here, even with hunting and predation keeping the population down a bit, ticks won't be going away from here anytime soon. Permethrin use has to be better than Lyme disease, I've had the latter, no fun and you question whether it's gone or not once in awhile. Next one is Powassan virus, not common yet, but neither was Lyme at one point.

The deer ticks are active if the temperature is above 39 F. This would have been an adult male or female [i:e66a5d0909]Ixodes scapularis[/i:e66a5d0909]. If the body is reddish it is female. Black legs. If the body is black and smaller it is a male. The adult deer ticks are active from about late Sept. to as late as March down here.

The other hard ticks get active above about 70-80 F and are basically warm weather fiends. The Lone star tick Amblyomma leaves quite an immune response and the wound left will itch for months.

Been a lot of roller coaster weather here lately. Lows in the 20 or 30 and high up to and around 70 give or take a bit. Today is was 70 or so when I first went out side around 10:30 and it is now around 58 out

Had one on me about a month ago, first warm day we had. Went in the woods to check storm assessment on down trees.

I have been pulling deer ticks off my dogs for over a month. Got 3 off my pup about a week ago. They always go romp around in the brush.

haven't seen a tick yet but Mosquito larvae or wigglers are thick in the rain buckets - Tenn.
