Most important, do not forget safety. Be sure that if it is a bumper pull trailer that you have a good trailer hitch mounted to the frame... I have seen more than one fellow pull the bumper off a truck using the factory bumper with its pot metal brackets. Be sure that the trailer has brakes (preferably on BOTH axles) and a safety break away kit. Always use safety chains to attach the trailer to the towing vehicle and be sure to secure your load with good chains and binders. It is always a good idea to check your binders and chains after a few miles and retighten if necessary. Probably the most important piece of advice - BACK your tractor onto the trailer. If you do not at some point the front end WILL come up and jeopardize your life. I learned the hard way, it will catch you off guard no matter how quick your reflexes. By loading your tractor a bit forward of the centerline of the trailer (you will notice the weight transfer to the truck) you will eliminate fish tailing. Good luck! : I need advice on what to look for in buying a trailer to haul a small tractor (27 hp about 3500 lbs with front end loader). This is what I've learned so far: About 16ft. long, tandem axle with electric brakes, 7000 lb. GVWR, will need a heavy duty frame mounted hitch like used for travel trailers, price may go as high as $2300 but I'd like to get it for less. I've also been warned about damaging the trailer during loading by concentrating weight on the tail end. Any comments will be appreciated.
