I live in Franklin County, VA, where parts of the show are filmed. Went to school with Blind Rodney Brown who was on one of the latest shows. Amos Law is a genuine former moonshine kingpin, the money man behind numerous operations. Henry Law, his son, was depicted on a recent show as a moonshiler, but he is a former moonshiner (Amos Law's son) and he recently started a legal distillery here in the county. Cecil Love is a former moonhiner who got busted a few years ago making a last run for some friends. Tim Smith is from neighboring Pittsylvania county.
As for the making of moonshine shown on the show, it's not real liquor being produced. All a show for the cameras. But the people are real.
