The white deer on Seneca Depot are not Albino. When the base was fenced in, the deer started inbreeding,which caused a recessive gene to come forward causing the lack of pigmentation. When the base was open a lottery was conducted to be able to hunt,with yet another lottery conducted to take a white deer.
The base closed and now hosts a prison and a troubled childrens facility. A Mennonite businessman has bought the the majority of base. An organization called Seneca White Deer has leased the rights on base and conduct tours to see the deer.
