As a teenager in Texas, had lightning strike a huge Pine tree, travel down, then shoot into the ground to buried cable going from the house to the shop. The lightning took the path to the shop, which is where I was. Had an electrical outlet explode and sent pieces hitting the far wall with a fair amount of force!
After losing our home to an electrical fire (faulty wiring), we got a new manufactured home (double wide). Lightning hit a huge Maple tree that had a dog chained to the base, but the lightning followed power lines that were going through the tree top, went through the meter and into the new house. Blew out nearly everything that was plugged in, including the new Whirlpool stack washer/dryer!
I guess we're lucky here. Have had TONS of all-night light shows to our southeast, as that area seems to somehow attract lightning. So far, we've been SUPER lucky here!!
