Simply take a pair of jumper cables connect one end of them to the alt output and the positive battery post. Should be able to prove your theory correctl if voltages then test normal. This could be left in place as a temporary repair. Just make sure the cable clamp on the alternator post is secure. Maybe a bungee strap to pull it away from everything if it comes unclamped. You're only using one strand of the cables just FYI.
