I know the feeling of being short on hay. We had a light drought in 1983. I had to buy hay and cull my brood cow herd hard. In 1984 I bought my first round baler. The next several years I baled anything that would make hay. Even the road right of ways. So when the major drought of 1988 came along I had hay on hand. Not the best but it beat snow balls.
Bruce I really feel for you. You need pretty good hay for your dairy cows. That is hard to do in years like this. Is there a local hay market/auction??? We have several here. One just north 15 miles has a weekly sale. Everything from junk CRP hay to high quality diary hay. They get loads of hay and straw from as far away as Canada. So at least we usually can find hay to buy to hold one over.
