An off-weekend any a time when buyers are feeling confident and have money in their pockets would be a great time for a sale. An indoor auction, like inside a show ring or the commercial building at a local fair grounds can work well for a winter auction or any time of year. Check out what one would rent for. Some of the advantages would be: good location on or close to paved roads, well marked on most maps for out of town buyers, plenty of good parking with loading facilities, buyers and tractors are out of the weather, your option of heated or unheated building, onsite kitchen/seating/restroom facilities, close to motels, keeps the crowd of lookers off your home place, etc.
Advertising and publicity will be critical. Your auctioneer may be able to combine multiple sales into one large sale. A weekend sale day might bring in more working age buyers and and working professionals (with money).
