Well, the tire garden idea was a pretty good one if I do say so myself. I haven't used a hoe or tiller this year and the plants have outdone anything I could have hoped for. The wife canned 18 pints and 2 quarts of cucumbers (pickles) besides giving a bunch away to the kids. The squash has gone crazy with fruit. I don't have a clue how many quarts she has frozen and we've had several skillets of fried zucchini and dishes of squash stew. The tomatoes are about 5' tall and are loaded with green ones. The bell peppers have several small ones on them. You can't see the tire the cucumbers are planted in, they are bush plants and have fruit that is only about 5-7" in length. We never intended for the plants to produce that much, but it sure has been great, I will say that I'm selling my 6' 3 point tiller and have my hoes hanging in the building to be used for killing snakes, not working on the garden.
