Starting and instantly dying doesn't sound like fuel. The bowl contains enough fuel to idle for several minutes.
If you want to narrow it down to fuel, fill an oil squirt can with gas, see if you can keep it running by carefully spraying fuel into the carb.
I'm guessing there is another problem, like an intermittent ignition problem, loss of power to the coil, bad coil, bad points or condenser, worn distributor shaft bushing.
