Help starting tractor 2

A few days ago I asked about getting a Farmall B started. Well I checked gas flow again as was suggested and it seems to flow good. (I pulled the plug out of the bottom of the carb). The tractor starts right up , but almost instantly kills. Someone suggested that I may need to set the flow. How do I adjust it? Any other suggestions?

I am sure this has been discussed before, but when I look in the archives I must not be putting in the correct request. Well I have a Farmall B that has sat for several years and am trying to get it going. I have good spark, and good flow of gas to the carb. I cleaned the carb and installed a new needle and seat. Also new gasket. Have checked and rechecked to make sure all passages are clean. The tractor will fire on ether and if it sits for a time it will fire on gas, but runs out of gas. What am I missing here? What should the idle mix screw be set at when first attempting to start? Any help would be appreciated.

Lightly seat the idle screw & back off 1/2 turn should be enough to run. Did you put the venture back in? Take the line off the carb & open the valve on the tank & make sure it has good flow.

There is a drain in the bottom of the bowl of the carb. Put a tin can under it and remove it. Gasoline should flow about a pint in 1.5 minutes. If not there is a restriction in the needle and seat, ot the screen at the carb fitting, or the sediment bowl. Jim

What carborator is it? Marvel-schebler? Check to make sure your Venturi is in properly. I put one in upside down before. Took me forever to figure it out

Have you measured the compression on each cylinder? The old tractors when they sit around can have the rings stuck or the valves have started to corrode and cause low compression which means you don't have the suction to draw in the gas. I just bought a Farmall 100 that will run if the carb is flooded but only a few seconds. It has sat around for over 10 years. I have less than 40 psi on compression (can't measure lower). I bought a Cub and an A that were the same way. On both a trip to the engine shop and a valve job fixed the problem.

I checked it this morning and I said this guy is onto something, so I reversed it and now the tractor will not fire at all.

Starting and instantly dying doesn't sound like fuel. The bowl contains enough fuel to idle for several minutes.

If you want to narrow it down to fuel, fill an oil squirt can with gas, see if you can keep it running by carefully spraying fuel into the carb.

I'm guessing there is another problem, like an intermittent ignition problem, loss of power to the coil, bad coil, bad points or condenser, worn distributor shaft bushing.

Most venturis only fit one way unless you force them to fit which can be very bad and cause you to need a new one. Pull the air cleaner tube off and try to start it with your hand over the air intake. You should get a good suction and also a hand covered with gas. If you do not get both you have a problem of either poor compression or a vacuum leak and a clogged up carb
