The extreme range shots are becoming more routine because of the adoption of the .50 cal. Browning cartridge to high quaility rifles like the Barret and the McMillen. I notice this shot was made with a McMillen rifle. The 707 gr. bullet sure helps negate some of the wind, mirage, and other factor that make those shots pretty tough. I would imagine that the transition from super sonic to sub sonic would be smother with a heavy bullet like that also. I believe the legendary Carlos Hathcock was one of the early pioneers experimenting with the .50 BMG as a sniper round.
