The alternator has a circuit that powers up the fuel pump relay. Swap the relay with another to test it. If that doesn't work, pull the relay, and jump power to the lead to the pump in the panel.
If the battery is dead I'm going with the alternator. Mounted low on the engine, it's a common failure point for anyone who sees much mud.
The computer also backs off the charging voltage under light load for fuel mileage.
