Hobo, I think you will find Kenmore, whirlpool, may tag, roper and a few others are the same company. I had a whirlpool from lowes go bad in less than two years. Lowes extended warranty gave me a full refund, which I could only spend the money at Lowes.
Look underneath the washer and you will see they are all the same, all have a bearing problem in transmission.
The only washer I could find that was different was the GE. Highly recommend paying the extra and getting an extended warranty. I like the GE, it's faster, you set the water levels, and the lid doesn't lock. It also has manual, not digital, timer. I did have a service call on GE, switch went bad. Service call was covered under extended warranty. I by the 5 year warranty.
As for dryers, I still like the whirlpool, They have been made the same way for as long as I can remember.
When it comes to appliances, I like Lowes free set up and delivery. Don't think they will go out of business like sears and HH gregg. Lowes extended warranty pays off, no hassle. One service call costs more than the warranty. geo.
