Crummy wires will get ya. They can cause resistance and that equals poor current flow thus poor charging. The bigger problem they cause is voltage and current not getting where it needs to go. What happens is now the altinator basically is un hooked. That is a big no no and it eventually fries the altinator. Crummy wire is kinda like you making and unhooking the connection hundreds of times a second. Your bracket should provide a good ground on its own. The power leads are the culprit, CHANGE IT ! There is a trick I use doing electrical wiring and connections in cooking equipment. Commercial toasters, hot wells, high output heating coils. With the power off feel your way around a little with the wires. If you flex them a tiny bit and they feel cruncy it is going bad. Copper wire will crystalize from heat. Now to confirm things,,,,,,turn on the unit and let it run for 5 or ten minutes. Unhook the power and feel you connections. If any are HOT, there is your problem. Change it.Glad you found your problem.
