Thanks everyone for the thoughts on the alternator. I got a rebuilt from o Reilly's last night. when I put it on it looked like the main wire from selonoid to the alternator had a little green corrosion when I took the wire off. ran another wire from the selonoid to the alt leaving the old one in place an added a ground to the alt case. fired the old girl up and she charged 14.73 volts at the alt. with all lights on and ac on 14.66 and it wasn't getting hot. maybe the issue has been found. guess time will tell.
