I wrote this article a long time ago to help people understand the theory behind what they need to hookup. It can be important to understand what the generator and regulator are doing since you'll find all different shapes and sizes of generators and regulators on old tractors. If yours is a 2 brush generator, then this is the article, but you'll also find a link there to one I wrote for three brush generators with a cutout relay instead of a full regulator. I think CA usually will have the later more involved regulator, but memory fails me on specifically the 1951 (though I had one at one time).
