I'm certain there's a lot of people that go there who are legitimately in need. Problem is, it's a guessing game as to who needs help and who is just wanting free money.
When my Dad had cancer, we met a woman from Oregon (I think) who had set up a GoFundMe page. I had never heard of it before. As she was describing it to me, it sounded an awful lot like begging for money - which as I grew up, was a bad thing to do.
Used to be a time when if someone needed help, it was their family, friends, neighbors and churches that would help. Now it seems it's down to asking strangers over an online website. ...Guess I'll just never warm up to the idea.
