Casenutty Your fencing job looks Great. I will have to disagree on the hand packed post being tighter than driven posts. On corner/gate post like these I use the post hole auger and dig a six inch hole 3-4 feet deep. Then drive in a 9-10 inch post. That makes a TGHT post that will not sag if the ground is solid where the post sets.
IF you do not have a driver then back fill with 3/4 stone. The post will be much tighter than one filled with dirt. Plus it is easier to fill the hole. Shovel the stone in slow and shake the post as your doing it. Then tamp the rock. Post will be tight as one set in concrete.
