I have my doubts that the disappearance was caused by Wi-Fi, bats echolocate using sound waves not radio waves. More likely White Nose Disease, a fungal infection that leaves white crud on their noses and is wiping them out. I used to have many in my area, but the last several years virtually none to speak of. I do have one that seems to migrate through the area in the spring and fall. As compared with a small residential colony that lived in the barn year round. There is supposedly a cave like structure in a damn on a river in northern lower Michigan where thousands of the little buggers overwinter. This brings them into close proximity to one another and facilitates the spread of the disease.

A lot of people fear bats for their potential to carry rabies though the odds are extremely low of encountering one. I heard something like less than 1 tenth of one percent. That being said, according to the local news, there were 37 animals in Michigan that have tested positive for rabies so far this year, 34 of them were bats. JD
