You need to ask your doc for an Epidural Steroid Injection now!!! Should get you some relief then I would see a good orthopod in your area for a workup. You need a MRI and maybe a myelogram of the lumbar. Depending on your case, you might buy some more time with some epidural steroids, neuroforaminal steroids and perhaps a radiofrequency ablation where the problematic nerves are burned. Before an ablation, they should do a few trials with a couple different "caine" meds to see if you get relief.
Think if the Epidural Steroids as a "shotgun" treatment of a larger area and the Neuroforaminal injections as a more targeted and precise deposit of the steroid right where they need to go.
You might ask around for a good neurosurgeon to do the surgery as well. The neuro guys are very caring of the nerves..
