Lots of heroin and opiate overdoses being reported here. On the one hand the cost in treasure and lives is sad and unfortunate. On the other, no one is holding a gun to their head forcing them to take it (other than the pains of addiction in their own brain). In some ways I think of it as a murder- suicide, they inflict damage on loved ones and society and then take themselves out, doing us a favor in the long run. Addictions have always been with us, but in these poor economic and social times it seems to be more wide spread as people seek some solace from despair.
