: Thanks for the comment. I have a Farmal Super "C" Tractor that I would like to enter in the tractor pulls. I noticed that on one of the Farmals, this lever that the operator pulled to shift into a different hi/low range. Can you tell me something about it?

: : : I love to watch the Antique Tractor pulls at the fairs. I was at the Cumberlain Fair last night with a friend that I resently got interested in old antique tractors. It was great! My question is this, is there an antique tractor that pulls better than others as a general rule? and what or how does a person make his tractor a better pulling tractor? Thank you any response will be greatly appreciated. Bob

: : : Bob, Not to sound like a smart a??, most any tractor in it's class can be a competive puller if as we tractor pullers put it ( It' all on how much cubic dollar you want spend) A good sport and hobby enjoy!!

Bob, being a novice puller myself I can say that it is a very enjoyable hobby. I have asked a lot of questions myself. I pull a stock Farmall M myself and usually pull 2 classes and do quite well. I have seen just about every brand of tractor win in my class, Farmall M, Cockshutt40 and 550 I think it was, Oliver 770,and we have beat the same tractors on different tracks, all depends on how you happen to be setup and grab onto the track, so as stated any tractor can win. Around here Super C'S do very well in the pulls. As for the Farmall that you saw sounds like a Super M Torque Amplified (SMTA), they can pull in the torque amplifier when the tractor is losing power while pulling and put the power down again, like dropping a gear.If you would want to email me I would be glad to reply and tell you the tips all the experts on the site have shared with me. By the way where abouts is Cumberlain?
Terry

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
