I did much the same thing. Got an old self propelled swather, square baler and though all I would need was the M. Then I got a bigger tractor with a 3 point to run a snow blower in the winter. Then I put in more cows. That lead to a loader on the bigger tractor, a diesel with 3 point and power steering. Upgrades included a round baler which in turn lead to a swing arm haybine. Then I needed something smaller that I could get affordable and available implements for to do our garden and food plots. A plow for the M would have been 600 or so. Disk almost impossible to find in that size. That lead to the 8N and now 10 implements. Cat 1 3 point implements were available both new and used. I picked up a plow and 2 cultivators for what a plow for the M would cost. Disk for 350, 5 foot hog for 375, post auger for 300, modified a 4 row DJ corn planter to 2 row 3 point. Made a sprayer, 3 point mount. It's been a workhorse. The M sits idle most of the time. In it's day the M was a great tractor. But today, to make it usable, it would need add on power steering, live hydraulics and 3 point. Well there is 2000-2500 just for the modifications. Add that to the value of the M and you now have the money to buy a slightly newer tractor with those items already on them. Or you could buy an 8N and some implements.
