Sorry but John Wayne was never a hero of mine. I grew up as an army brat. I grew up around guys who were WWII, Korean war and Vietnam vets. Those guys were my heroes. Not some actor. So them not having a JW day in no way takes my heritage. Lee fought for what he believed in and could have been executed at the end of the war. Davis took on a job that could have seen him hung after the war as a traitor for what he believed in. Both men took a stand that posed a great deal of risk to themselves. To the best of my knowledge John Wayne's only risk to himself was doing some stunts for money and being shot by a jealous husband. Other men have done things that put themselves at great risks both to their lives and their financial well being like those who supported the equal rights movement in the 60's or strapped themselves into a rocket. And yes, some of those were not the best of people but they still risk it all.
