Recently purchased a 1942 Farmall H distillate model with 5000 ft altitude option to till ten acres of family property to plant in various vegetables for a market garden. The tractor had a miss at idle, which turns out to be the very low compression of 60 psi on all cylinders. Ran the valve lash and also found the #3 exhaust valve was at darn near .200" causing the correlating piston to be pitted badly. Anyway, it has become extremely hard to start lately and it's time for an end frame overhaul and need to know if a set of gas fire crater or step head piston will clear the distillate head? The Pistons that are in it are step heads, but was unclear if their was a difference between the distillate and gas step head piston heights. I'm trying to get the compression ratio up as this will be a working tractor pulling a 2 bottom plow, 8 foot tandem disk, and various cultivating implements. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.
