Gary, your pain will probably go away sooner than you think, unless you keep hurting your shoulder. I came thi-i-s close to having rotator cuff surgery this past summer but changed my mind. Now shoulder does not hurt at all. However, when rotator cuff is not repaired it causes muscles to weaken. Now I can't raise any weight above shoulder level---can't even raise a full jug of milk to the top shelf of the fridge. It hasn't much affected the other use of my arm. If you are a young man with a lot of working years left you might consider the surgery. Me, at 75, it doesn't make much difference.
