Not sure exactly what you are looking for in the 40. I bought a S&W MP Shield in 40 cal a while back. Was on sale for 375 and shoots outstanding well. Ruger's new American pistol also looks bood but not sure it is offerec in .40. It is bigger and heavier. .22 ammo seems to be becoming easier to find in my area(central Washington) some CCI long rifle. Local discount store has had .22 short HP. I don't think I have ever seen those before. When I was a kid I shot lots of shorts from my dad's old .22
