The linkage will work fine without it if you can get everything else freed up. Out of all the VA series I have only a couple have that spring in place. Can unhook the rod from the foot throttle until you get it freed up if necessary. Sometimes removal of the floorboard is the easiest way to get it working. Gives better access and allows you to get some type of lubricant worked into the pivot. Lee
