Lower gas lever linkage on VAC

I was trying to loosen up the tension on the hand gas lever for my daughter as it is her tractor. I backed the nut on the lever mech back to the cotter key. I then found that the linkage down by the end of the steering post was tight. I tried loosing that nut and the bolt broke. When it did, things scattered. Im trying to figure out how it all worked. I THINK that the inner hand lever linkage at the bottom goes so far forward, then hits a stud on the side of the foot feed linkage on the other/outside of the hand linkage, and causes the foot feed to go down by itself as the hand lever is used to create more power from the engine. IF I am right, then where does the spring go and how does it hook up, as it has one hook that is bent in line with the linkage.

IF that spring is supposed to have 2 hooks, can anyone tell me where to get a new one?

I used to have one of those, and remember there's a LOT involved in that throttle/foot throttle area.

Below is a link to the official CIH parts site.

Enter your model, then pick the correct series, and open that catalog and look under "fuel system" for assembly drawings and part numbers.

OK I went there, but the pics are small, even when enlarged. I could not see a full pic of the spring, and neverless, they said it was unavailable.

The spring is still available according to the website. The new part # is A30339. The price will definitely cause sticker shock at over 37.00 plus tax. The linkage will work fine without it if you can get everything else freed up. Out of all the VA series I have only a couple have that spring in place. Can unhook the rod from the foot throttle until you get it freed up if necessary. Sometimes removal of the floorboard is the easiest way to get it working. Gives better access and allows you to get some type of lubricant worked into the pivot. Lee
