Tons of problems with timing chains, guides, tensioner etc. If its are making noise you better do something about it or you will have major engine damage, if not too late. Chains stretch, guides wear or brake then the chains slap around and start eating metal, then the metal shavings start migrating everywhere. Also its not too common but the camshaft reluctor can get loose on the front of the camshaft, why its pressed on and not keyed is beyond me.
A few things to note, the chains, guides, tensioner all need oil to work, starve it for oil and it will fail fast. Extended oil chainges are only good if using the right oil and checking it occasionally. I'm seeing a lot of newer vehicles coming in for their 7k+ oil changes and they are very low on oil, plus the general public wants the cheapest oil and/or conventional oil you can buy . This engine/design is known for excessive oil consumption issues anyway.
