Where to start. We have too many irons in the fire so to speak to really watch all the cash flow(farm work, garden, greenhouse, market, jobs in town...)
In short, what sells at market pays for the rent on the garden and a little extra. Is it only produce we sell, No, we also sell canned goods(that the state says are ok to sell homemade), metal lawn stakes/ figures, and what ever else we can find to peddle down there. The more variety of stuff you can sell, even just more and different produce, the more likely you will catch a sale. We know a wholesaler we get some things from (people want sweet corn ours didn't do well, deal) we put a markup on the stuff(yes we tell buyers what we got from up there), and all that is covered by market sales. If I would take cost for the main farm, or more for equipment repairs, out from the gardens profits it become a money pit.
If you work hard you could turn a hobby into a full time, profitable business. The way our wholesaler got started was a small FFA project, now he grows enough to supply groceries.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl.
