Your story (Cory) fits the idea I had in my head pretty close. Are you able to "sustain" with the profits from the produce or is it just a place to invest money each year?
I live in a rural part of SE PA, surrounded by a lot of small 125-200 acre farms. Some of which have been blended together over the years and families merging. There is an approaching urban sprawl but so far it is still a few years away from getting too close. This area is family farm-ville. A little south of us, if there is a spot of land big enough to grow a tomato plant, the Amish or Mennonite pick it up in a second.
