Some do or did. GMC manual tranny on 1 ton had a side shaft PTO that could be used with a shaft out side for elevator work or for power to chain drag for gravel dump on another box. Ford and IHC had a PTO option for winch use or some other power need with power taken off side of tranny, another option for PTO bent right angle from side for use in front or back- winch or snow blower, gravel spreader or some kind of pump, rather large pickup, had duallies on back but still 8 foot base box, standard large cab even if was state DOT truck. RN.
