Hate to hear your problem. Old tractors often have unknown fractures which still work with light loading. Rough treatment and hard work can be the straw that breaks the camel's back. It's like loaning your chain saw, rarely do they come back in good shape. Hopefully your neighbor is a good guy and will tell you what he was doing when it quit. I sold my D4D (about 1965) this year, it was a good strong machine but I know it is waiting for a final drive failure. So for a big job I rent a new machine.
