Let me start off by saying that I do not like taxes - of ANY kind. I also temper that with the acknowledgement that taxes are necessary to provide the goods and services that we require of our government.

Now. having said that, I find your statement to be inflammatory. Why???

Well, first, around a THIRD of your paycheck is confiscated from your wages before you even see it for taxes. Federal, FICA, Medicare, State, Local, and the list goes on. Then, you are taxed on your real estate - whether you own it or rent it, the taxes are figured in one way or another. Next, when you make any purchase locally, in most states, there are sales taxes that range from 0 to nearly 10%. When you buy fuel, you pay more taxes. Here in PA, we have a whole host of nuisance taxes - privilege taxes, head taxes, EMT tax, and the list goes on.

So, now that some folks have found a small amount of relief in the form of mail order, you support taxing them as well??? Why don't you just give ALL OF YOUR MONEY to the government and let them support you and we can see how that works out.

I object to sales taxes for this reason: it is a DUPLICATE TAX. You have already paid tax on top of tax on the money that you have. Now, they want to take another bite out of what is left. I personally think that sales taxes should REPLACE other taxes rather than adding to them.

Then there is the issue of how the money collected in taxes is spent. Do you approve of how the government spends recklessly? $400 screwdrivers and $700 toilet seats? And then you get handed the bill???

In a nutshell, I do NOT support any more taxation. I DO support FAIR taxation. And at REASONABLE rates. And I do NOT approve of experimental social programs that take on a life of their own.
